Extend your stay after arrival

1. Further stay options via the Immigration Department in Dili

You may apply for the following types of visa after your arrival at the Immigration Department Offices in Dili, Timor Leste.

Class I (Tourist) Visa
Class III Study Visa Important – visa extension, you must already hold a visa of the same type
Class IV Cultural, Scientific, Sporting or Media Visa Important – visa extension, you must already hold a visa of the same type
Work Visa Important – visa extension, you must already hold a visa of the same type
Resident Permit Important – you must already hold a resident permit (Temporary or Permanent) which you seek to renew, or hold a Visa to Establish Residence.
Family Reunification For immediate family of foreigners granted a residence permit.
Special Stay Authorisation If you are a member of staff of a designated NGO or Cooperation Organisation and not already granted stay authorisation by virtue of that employment, you may apply for a Special Stay Authorisation at the at the Immigration Department in Dili.

Important - Please note that Transit (Class II) visas and Visas to Establish Residence CANNOT be extended after arrival. Holders of Transit Visas are required to depart the country before the validity of their visa ceases. If they seek to stay on another basis they must leave the country and re-enter on another type of visa.

Holders of Visas to Establish Residence MUST apply for a residence permit before the expiry of the current visa.

Please note, you should make any extension of further stay application BEFORE your current visa expires.

2. Further stay options via the Department of Consular Affairs Department in Dili

You may also apply to stay in Timor Leste after arrival on the following types of visa where you do not already hold a visa of this type:

Applications for these visas must be made at the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dili, Timor Leste.
